ALMOST GROWN UP
This exhibition is a journey through my life. The starting point was a very old box
of family photographs, which I studied, scanned (not wishing to destroy the originals),
tore up and incorporated with additional paper collage to create a collection of
sometimes obscure and occasionally unusual paintings.
Each canvas contains at least one or more half hidden image, with the clues being in the titles.
Many of the paintings follow through my love of music, and indeed, the title of the
painting I created to celebrate my marriage, is taken from our favourite Leonard Cohen
song, “So long Marianne”.
I have spent hours trawling the internet to find other images essential to the work, and,
as usual, many nights working into the small hours.
It has been challenging, sometimes frustrating, particularly when ideas didn’t gel first time
or second, but it has been a wonderful adventure, one which I hope will be enjoyed!
As is normal for me, my steadying influence has been Michel, who has been there to
keep me focussed, when I have been ready to throw all my toys out of the pram!!
